H.M.S. Melpomene was one of four Medea class destroyers laid down for the Greek Navy but completed for the Royal Navy.

Sold in 1921, the former monitor M.31 took on the name of Melpomene in 1922.

Service

Melpomene fought in the Action of 23 July, 1916, a running night action where she pursued a superior force of German destroyers.

She was reduced to C. & M. Party at the Nore on 9 February, 1920.[6]
