Service

Landrail incorporated Yarrow's latest superheaters which demonstrated a 20% increase in endurance over her class-mates in a slow-speed consumption trial in April, 1914.[6]

At the start of the war, Landrail was with the Third Destroyer Flotilla, part of the First Fleet. In September 1915, this formation was renamed the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla, which was part of the Harwich Force.

In March 1917, she moved to the Sixth Destroyer Flotilla, part of the Dover Patrol.

In May 1917 she moved to the Portsmouth Escort Flotilla, but the very next month she moved to the First Destroyer Flotilla, which was also based at Portsmouth.

In January, 1918, she moved to the Firth of Forth to join what would soon be dubbed the Methil Convoy Flotilla.[7] She paid off in January, 1919. By April, 1919 she was at Portsmouth with a Reserve Complement.[8]

Reduced to C. & M. Party at Portsmouth on 17 October, 1919.[9]
