H.M.S. L 20 was one of thirty-five "L" class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Commissioned 1 January, 1924. In 1925, she was part of Fourth Submarine Flotilla on the China Station,[6] remaining there until at least early 1929.[7]

By mid-1931, she had become one of two "L" class boats in Group "D" Submarines in Reserve at Portsmouth under the collective command of Lieutenant-Commander Eric Philip Arthur Brooks.[8]
