H.M.S. H 5 was one of forty-four "H" class submarines completed for the Royal Navy in the 1910s.

Service

On 14 July, 1916, she sank U 51 at 53° 55' N., 7° 53' E.[7]

She was lost with all hands on the night of 2 March, 1918 when she was sunk in error. Among the dead was U.S. Navy Lieutenant Earle W. F. Childs, who was serving as an observer.[8]
