H.M.S. Ferret was one of 29 destroyers of the Acheron class.

Service

Pre-War

Ferret served with the First Destroyer Flotilla from 1911.[Citation needed]

In July, 1914, Ferret was serving in First Destroyer Flotilla, part of First Fleet.[8]

The Battle of Heligoland Bight

She was present with First Destroyer Flotilla on 28 August 1914 at the Battle of Heligoland Bight.

The Battle of Jutland

Ferret was not with her flotilla at the Battle of Jutland on 31 May, 1916 but she continued to serve with the First Destroyer Flotilla screening the Grand Fleet until November 1916 when the flotilla was assigned to operate with the Third Battle Squadron.[9]

On 18 January 1917 she was torpedoed by UC 21.[Citation needed] She was able to return to service.

In 1917 she was converted to a minelayer along with sisters Sandfly and Ariel, capable of carrying 40 mines.

Ferret started serving with the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla on the East Coast of England in July 1917[10] and transferred to the Twentieth Destroyer Flotilla in March 1918.[11]

Post-War

Ferret reduced to C. & M. Party at Portsmouth 17 October, 1919.[12]
