H.M.S. Express was one of twelve Forester Class gunboats completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

During much of the 1870s, the ship bore the Senior Officer, Gibraltar, who was typically a captain. However, a Lieutenant & Commander was appointed to the ship itself.

Express was commissioned at Devonport on 10 August, 1875.[3]

She commissioned at Devonport on 14 February, 1884.[4]
