Service

Commissioned at Devonport on 24 October, 1911. In early 1913, she was attached with the Third Battle Squadron, but was ordered to join the Second Light Cruiser Squadron in July.[7]

Dartmouth under the command of Captain Albert Percy Addison and Bristol were part of the Allied naval force that sortied from Brindisi in the Battle of the Strait of Otranto on 14-15 May, 1917. Dartmouth was not damaged in the indecisive and confused action itself, but at 1.30pm she was torpedoed and seriously damaged by the German UC 25.

Dartmouth was fitted with a director in February, 1918. This alteration required her pole mast to be replaced with a tripod mast for greater rigidity.[8]

She recommissioned at Gibraltar in March, 1919.[9]

She paid off into Dockyard Control on 26 September, 1923.[10]
