H.M.S. Caribbean was a commercial liner, R.M.S. Dunottar Castle, converted for use as an Armed Merchant Cruiser in the Royal Navy.

Service

She became an accommodation ship on 1 June, 1915.[1]

When she foundered in bad weather while en route to Scapa, it was thought that the scuttles may have not all been secure. An inquiry was conducted into the loss.

Armament

Caribbean was armed with:[2]

  • eight 4.7-in guns
  • two 6-pdrs

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.
