H.M.S. Calypso was one of two Calypso class cruisers completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

Commissioned at Chatham on 21 September 1885 and joined the Training Squadron.[2]

Calypso participated in the Annual Manoeuvres of 1890 under the command of Captain Count Frederick C. Metaxa as part of Squadron 4, whose role in the scenario is difficult to discern in a contemporary newspaper account.[3]

In 1910, the ship was serving as a training ship for the Newfoundland Royal Naval Reserve.[4]

In 1916, her name was changed to H.M.S. Briton.
