Builder: Campbell Johnston[1]
Launched: 17 Sep, 1872[2]
Sold: 17 Jun, 1906[3]
H.M.S. Bulldog was one of twenty-four Ant class gunboats completed for the Royal Navy. There was also a Beagle class destroyer named H.M.S. Bulldog launched in 1909.

Service

Upon completion in November 1872, Bulldog and her sister Pike joined the first division of the Steam Reserve at Portsmouth[4] after some difficult weather necessitated their heaving to at Sheerness on the way.[5]

The three Devonport-based gunboats Scourge, Plucky and Bulldog were among the ships invited to participate in the Queen's naval Jubilee at Portsmouth in 1887.[6]

In June 1906 while lying at Devonport Dockyard, she was listed for sale at a July 10th Portsmouth auction of "Obsolete War Vessels and Other Craft" as "Lot 10".[7]
