H.M.S. Banshee (1894)
Builder: Laird[1]
Ordered: 1893-94[2]
Laid down: Mar, 1894[3]
Launched: 17 Nov, 1894[4]
Commissioned: Jul, 1895[5]
Broken up: 1912[6]

H.M.S. Banshee was one of thirty-six 27 Knotters, early Torpedo Boat Destroyers built for the Royal Navy in the 1890s.

Like most of the 27 knotters, her useful life ran its course before the Great War.

Service

Banshee was launched at Birkenhead at the works of Laird Brothers. Mrs. Elliott Lees, wife of the M.P. for Birkenhead, named the vessel.[7]

She performed "most satisfactorily" in her preliminary trials on 21 January 1895, making over 29 knots.[8]

Banshee arrived at Malta on 2 February 1904 in company with six other destroyers.[9] She was in reserve at Malta in late 1905.[10]

In late 1906 Banshee was in commission with the Mediterranean Fleet.[11]

In 1908, Banshee collided with Boxer through the fault of Lieutenant-in-Command Washington.[12]

In early 1910 she was in commission with the Mediterranean Fleet.[13]
