H.M.S. B 4 (1905)
Pendant Number: I.24 (1914)
B.4 (mid 1915)[1]
Builder: Vickers[2]
Launched: 14 Nov, 1905[3]
Sold: Apr, 1919[4]
H.M.S. B 4 was one of eleven "B" class coastal submarines completed for the Royal Navy.

Service

B 4 collided with a dredger while entering Portsmouth harbour on 21 July, 1906. Lt. David de Beauvoir Stocks beached her to prevent her sinking. She was later repaired in drydock.

At the outset of war, she was assigned to the Third Submarine Flotilla. In January 1915, 3 S.F. was consolidated in the Fourth Submarine Flotilla, serving in Home and Atlantic Waters. In October 1915, she was moved to the Ninth Submarine Flotilla which was just three submarines strong and part of the Clyde Local Defence Flotilla.

In September 1916 she joined the Seventh Submarine Flotilla, which was really just her until it was disbanded in November 1916.
