H.M.A.S. Brisbane was built in Australia and operated exclusively with the Royal Australian Navy, never with the Royal Navy. Hence, she always bore the "H.M.A.S." prefix.

Service

Brisbane departed Australia for service in the Mediterranean in December, 1916.

Following a year and a half of refit work at Sydney, the ship was commissioned on 28 June, 1928.[6]

She paid off into "E" class reserve at Sydney on 1 December, 1930.[7]

Alterations

Brisbane was apparently not fitted with a director until well after her sisters, perhaps owing to Australian point of origin.[8] A photo taken of her in 1935 shows that she did acquire a light aloft tower, high on her foremast at some point.[9]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.
