Lieutenant-Commander (emergency) Gilbert Esdaile Venning (9 January, 1886 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Kuala Lumpur.

Venning was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1907.

Venning was appointed in command of the submarine C 14 on 4 January, 1910.[1]

Venning resigned his commission on 17 June, 1911. On 29 August of that year, he was added to the Emergency List.

Great War

On 17 April, 1915, Venning was reinstated to the Active List with a seniority date of 21 May, 1911.

Venning was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1915.

Venning was in command of the submarine E 44 on 17 January, 1918.[2]

Post-War

On 27 May 1919, his reinstatement to the Active List was cancelled and he was to be considered as having served on the Emergency List throughout.
