Lieutenant-Commander George Wyatt Edgell Naper, R.N. (24 August, 1884 – 24 March, 1916) was a submarine officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born at Stanley Lodge, Exmouth the son of Lieutenant-Colonel W. D. Naper.
Naper was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1906.
Naper was appointed in command of the submarine C 14 on 10 September, 1913.[1] The submarine would be lost under his command on 10 December, 1913, but would be salvaged and placed back into service – remarkably, under his command!
Naper was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1914.[2]
He was killed on 24 March, 1916 when his command, E 24 was mined in the North Sea.[3] His service record dates the loss on the 27th.
