Rear-Admiral George Hayley Hewett, C.I.E., R.N. (12 November, 1855 – 7 October, 1930) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Catsfield, Sussex, the son of Reverend J. Hewett.

Hewett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 December, 1879.

He was aboard Bonetta for the Jubilee Manoeuvres in the summer of 1887.

Hewett was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1893.[1]

He commanded the torpedo cruiser Racoon on the East Indies Station from 1897 through 1899, when he was promoted to the rank of Captain.[2]

As a Captain, he commanded the coast defence monitor Magdala, which was then at Bombay. He subsequently directed the Royal Indian Marine from 1904 to 1909, being promoted to Rear-Admiral in 1908 on the Retired List.[3]
