Rear-Admiral THE HONOURABLE George Fraser, D.S.O. (4 March, 1887 – 20 June, 1970) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Fraserburgh Scotland, Fraser was the second son of Alexander Fraser, Eighteenth Baron Saltoun. He gained two and a half months time on passing out of Britannia in May, 1903.[1]

Great War

At the beginning of the First World War he served as Flag lieutenant to Rear-Admiral Robert Keith Arbuthnot, Fourth Baronet.

He was appointed as commander of the destroyer Raider on 12 October, 1916.[3]

Fraser was promoted to Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1917.[4]

Interbellum

Fraser was gazetted for a D.S.O. on March of 1920 for distinguished services in command of Winchester during the war.[5]

Fraser was appointed in command of the destroyer Walker on 16 November, 1920.[6]

Fraser was promoted to Commander on 30 June, 1922.[7]

Fraser was promoted to Captain on 31 December, 1929.[8]

In October 1930, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Calypso.

World War II

Fraser superseded Hermon-Hodge in command of H.M.S. President on 5 June, 1940. He ceased this role when he was promoted to Rear-Admiral on 25 June. On the 29th, he was appointed to H.M.S. Badger, additional, as Chief Staff officer to the Flag Officer in Charge, Harwich, vice McWilliam. Fraser was subsequently appointed in command of H.M.S. Badger on 15 August, 1940.[9]
