History

Danubius was originally formed as Vereinigte Schiff- und Maschinenbau A.G. Danubius-Schoenichen-Hartmann through the merger of two Budapest mechanical engineering firms in 1896. Danubius, shortly after taking over the site (but not the tooling) of a former shipyard in Fiume.
