Commander (retired) Frederick Langton Cavaye (26 June, 1891 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy and the Royal Australian Navy.

Life & Career

The son of an Australian farmer.

Cavaye was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 15 December, 1911.[1]

On 27 September 1912, he commenced six months' Engine Room training, completing this on 26 March 1913.

On 1 June 1913, Cavaye was loaned to the Royal Australian Navy, travelling out in the Sydney. He would transfer to Encounter at some later point. Cavaye was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 December, 1913. Cavaye continued to serve in the R.A.N. until returning home in 1915.[2]

Cavaye was appointed in command of the destroyer Tancred on 5 January, 1918.[3]

Post-War

On 1 April, 1919, Cavaye was again lent to the R.A.N. This appointment extended to 9 August, 1922 when he reverted to the Royal Navy.

Cavaye was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 December, 1921.[4]

Cavaye was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 25 June, 1934.[5]

World War II

Cavaye commenced service with the Royal Australian Navy on 2 September 1939. Cavaye reverted to the Retired List on 20 October 1945.[6]
