Frederick Cobb Finnis
Commander (retired) Frederick Cobb Finnis, D.S.O., R.N. (20 August, 1886 – 16 October, 1951) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Finnis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1908.[1]
Finnis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February 1916. Most of the war saw him in shore-based gunnery positions, but he was gunnery officer of the monitor Sir Thomas Picton from October 1915 to July 1917.[2]
On 12 December, 1919, his commanding officer in Calypso reported that Finnis drank too much. His wine and spirit consumption was limited as a result. While he was subject to periodic reports for a considerable time, he performed well. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 6 March, 1930. He proceeded to Canada.[3]
World War II
Finnis was taken up into service in the Royal Canadian Navy.
Finnis was promoted to the rank of Commander on 8 May, 1946.[4]
