Lieutenant-Commander Frederick Archibald Warner, D.S.O. (31 December, 1884 – 23 December, 1917) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Trinidad, Warner gained two months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Before Warner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1907, he served in a number of ships, including Repulse, Minerva, Ariadne, Berwick and Queen. He continued to serve in Queen in lieu of a Sub-liuetenant until 14 December, 1908.[1]

In 1911, Warner's T.B. 86 collided with T.B. 042 and he was blamed for an error in judgement.

Warner was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 23 on 5 March, 1912.[2]

Warner was appointed in command of the destroyer Coquette on 21 January, 1914.[3] He damaged Actæon's rudder with her later that year, and on 12 December, ran Coquette into an obstruction while entering Felixstowe Dock, for which he was warned to be more careful in future.[4]

Warner was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1915. He continued to serve in command of Coquette until mid-February, 1916. A year in command of Myngs followed before he was appointed in command of Torrent in February, 1917. In mid 1917, Warner was invested with a D.S.O. by the King "for special good work in patrols and minesweeping operations with the Nore Flotilla." Warner eventually died when his Torrent was lost, along with her Tenth Destroyer Flotilla consorts Surprise and Tornado, to a mine on 23 December, 1917.[5][6]
