Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. Frank Pattinson (25 April, 1881 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

In civil service, Pattinson worked for the New Zealand Shipping Company in the Kaipara progressing from Fourth through First Mate, and then in Wakatane as First Mate

Pattinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 16 June, 1908.[1]

In July of 1915, Pattinson was put in command of Velox. He received an expression of Admiralty appreciation for his conduct in command on 25 October, 1915.[2]

Pattinson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander with a date of seniority of 16 June, 1916. At some time in 1916, Pattinson received an expression of Their Lordships appreciation by "rendering gallant & prompt assistance" in rescuing men from the sinking ship Fauvette. Philip Agnew Bateman-Champain thought Pattinson "a zealous and capable destroyer officer inclined to be a little casual as regards his duty as Cap. when in harbour."[3]

Pattinson was appointed in command of Rock Sand on 25 July, 1918.[4]

Pattinson was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 041 on 19 October, 1918.[5]

Pattinson was logged by Commander M. R. Bernard and admonished for being absent from PC 42 on 7 June, 1919 and absent from Portsmouth.[6]

In December, 1918 Pattinson became Chief Officer in the civil ship Shropshire of 12,184 gross tonnage, leaving her in late April, 1920. In October he started service as Master of Sussex for a little less than one year.
