Captain Eric Barry Kenyon Stevens, D.S.O.*, D.S.C., R.N. (8 January, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve and transferrd into the Royal Navy in 1917.

Life & Career

Stevens became a temporary Midshipman R.N.R. with an appointment to the armed merchant cruiser Alcantara from 27 April, 1915 until she was lost on 29 February, 1916.[1]

He was appointed to the battleship Queen on 1 May, 1916.[2]

Stevens was appointed to the Vanguard on 1 March, 1917. He was fortunate to have been lent to the destroyer Norman before Vanguard blew up just before midnight on 9 July 1917, being then one of approximately twenty-four men who escaped with their lives.[3]

Stevens was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1919.[4]

Stevens was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1927.[5]

Stevens was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1933.[6]

World War II

Stevens was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1939.[7]

Stevens was placed on the Retired List on 8 January, 1949.[8]
