Vice-Admiral SIR Edward Fitzhardinge Heaton-Ellis, K.B.E., C.B., M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (19 November, 1868 – 23 February, 1943) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Heaton-Ellis was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 30 April, 1907.[1]

On 30 June, 1908, Heaton-Ellis was promoted to the rank of Captain.[2]

He was appointed to command the battleship Prince of Wales on 19 December, 1911.[3]

He was appointed command of the battleship King Edward VII on 17 May, 1912.[4]

Heaton-Ellis succeeded Captain Maurice FitzMaurice as Assistant Director of the Intelligence Division of the War Staff on 14 February, 1914.[5]

Great War

On 15 September he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) dated 31 May.[6]

Post-War

In recognition of his services during the war, on the occasion of the King's birthday Heaton-Ellis was appointed a Commander of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) on 3 June, 1919.[7] He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 4 October vice Silver.[8] He was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 2 December.[9] On 1 January, 1920, he was appointed a Knight Commander in the Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.).[10]

He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 18 January, 1925.[11]
