Dudley Stuart

Lieutenant-Commander Dudley Stuart (9 November, 1883 – 1 June, 1916) was an officer in the Royal Navy. The year of his birth is not entirely clearly written in his service record.

Life & Career

Born in Bromley, the son of Commander Dudley Charles Stuart, R.N..

Stuart was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1906.

On 20 January, 1911, he was admitted to Haslar Hospital to be treated for an injury to his left elbow. He was declared fit on 9 May, 1911.

Stuart was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1914. On 1 April, 1915, Captain Borrett warned Stuart for his "general slackness & conspicuous want of zeal."

On 6 January, 1916, his "application for command of a T.B. destroyer [was] noted". On 14 january, he was appointed in command of the River Class destroyer Moy. On 20 May, 1916 he was appointed in command of the destroyer Turbulent.

Stuart commanded Turbulent at the Battle of Jutland, fighting while on temporary assignment to the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla. He was killed when the ship was lost in action.
