Captain (retired) Donald Irvine McGillewie, R.N. (9 April, 1886 – 29 December, 1948) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Dunkeld, the son of R. McGillewie, Esq., bank agent.

McGillewie was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 July, 1906.

McGillewie was appointed in command of the submarine C 36 on 4 March, 1913.[1]

McGillewie was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 July, 1914.

McGillewie was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1918.

Post-War

On 2 April, 1919, two A.Bs. in K 10 drowned. A Court of Enquiry informed McGillewie that more care was expected of him in ensuring that his ship and her fittings were efficient.

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 November, 1922, McGillewie was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 9 April, 1931.

World War II

Reverted to the Retired List on 18 June, 1942.

Placed on the Retired List as medically unfit on 20 January, 1947.
