Captain Denis Granville Thynne, C.M.G., Royal Navy (17 October, 1875 – 18 December, 1955) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Thynne was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1910.[1]

On 23 December, 1911 Thynne appointed commander in the heavy cruiser Kent.[2]

On 10 November, 1913, Thynne was appointed in command of Lark.[3]

While in Agincourt, Thynne had a pet bull terrier named "Nick".

Thynne was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1916.[4]

"For valuable services in command of a Minelayer for eighteen months," he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (C.M.G.) on 24 March, 1919.[5]

On 13 January, 1920, Thynne was appointed in command of the depot ship Woolwich in Devonport, recommissioning her there on the 3rd of February and becoming Captain (D) of a flotilla.[6]
