Admiral SIR David Murray Anderson, K.C.B., K.C.M.G., M.V.O., Royal Navy (11 April, 1874 – 30 October, 1936) was an officer of the Royal Navy. He was appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Newfoundland in 1932, and from 1935 until his death in 1936 he served as Governor of New South Wales, Australia.

Life & Career

Anderson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 23 February, 1895.[1]

On 11 February 1913, he was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Hyacinth.[2]

Appointed command of the light cruiser Ajax on 21 March, 1918.[3]

Great War

He was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George (C.M.G.) on 1 January, 1918.[4]

Anderson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 6 April, 1922.[5]

On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 2 June, 1923.[6]

In the King's Birthday Honours of 3 June, 1930, Anderson was knighted and appointed an Ordinary Member of the Second class, or Knight Commander, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).[7]
