Vice-Admiral Dashwood Fowler Moir, (16 August, 1880 – 8 August, 1942) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 26 June, 1902.[1]

Moir was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914.[2]

He was appointed in command of destroyer Ariel in January 1912, commanding her at the Battle of Dogger Bank and the Battle of Heligoland Bight.[3] He remained with Ariel until October 1914, when he took command of destroyer Goshawk.[4]

He commanded Goshawk at the Battle of Jutland,[5] operating as part of the First Destroyer Flotilla.

He commanded Vimiera between 1917 and March, 1918 and led a division of destroyers before being given charge of Valhalla on 16 July, 1918.[6]

He left Valhalla in January of 1919 and was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1919,[7] a rank which afforded him command opportunities in flotilla command.

On 21 December, 1920, he commanded the flotilla leader Bruce as Captain (D) of the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla. At some point in 1921, he moved his pennant to flotilla leader Mackay, hauling it down on 15 January, 1923.[8]
