Rear-Admiral (retired) Claud Arthur William Hamilton, R.N. (3 April, 1861 – 21 January, 1940) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Devonport, Hamilton was raised by Mrs. Mary Cumming of Exmouth.

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 7 September, 1883.

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1895.

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1903.

Hamilton was made captain of the armoured cruiser Essex in 1906.

He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Aboukir on 2 March, 1907.[1]

Hamilton placed first out of eleven captains at the Royal Navy War College session of 5 October, 1909 - 28 January, 1910.

Hamilton was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Rear-Admiral on 3 June, 1913, having recently been judged fit only for shore service. No participation in the Great War is indicated.
