Rear-Admiral Charles Penrose Rushton Coode, C.B., D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (24 October, 1870 – 23 December, 1939) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

On 10 June, 1891, he was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, dated 24 October, 1889.[1]

Coode was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 24 October, 1891.[2]

An early appointment in command of T.B. 89, dated 9 July, 1895, was cancelled. Appointments in Calypso of the Training Squadron (16 September 1895 to 11 February, 1897) and as first lieutenant in Algerine of the China Station followed before Coode received a short appointment in command of the gunboat Redpole on 1 March 1898, returning to Algerine on 24 May.[3]

Coode was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1904.[4][5]

He was appointed in command of the scout cruiser Forward on 13 August, 1907.[6]

Coode was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1913.[7]

Great War

Coode was appointed to the Blenheim on 1 February, 1914, as Captain (D) of the Fifth Destroyer Flotilla.[8] He was superseded in command of the ship by Acting Captain Percy Pitts, but remained aboard as Captain (D) through mid-May of 1917 when he was to work with the Admiralty as part of the Operations Division.[9]

Post-War

Coode was appointed as captain of Royal Oak on 12 January, 1921,[10] but this was cancelled.[11]

On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 3 June, 1919.[12]
