Captain (retired) Charles Henry Aubrey Cartwright (18 September, 1882 – 10 May, 1940) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in London, the son of Aubrey Cartwright, Esq., J.P..

Cartwright was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1904.[1]

Cartwright was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1912.

Cartwright was promoted to the rank of Commander on 26 February, 1917.

Post-War

Cartwright was placed on the Retired List on 3 July, 1925 due to non-service.

Cartwright was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 18 September, 1927.

World War II

Cartwright died of a gunshot wound sustained in a motor car in Rotterdam, where he'd been appointed as Consular Shipping Adviser. He had been assisting in the evacuation of British nationals while near a firefight between German paratroopers and Dutch military forces.[2]
