Commander (retired) Charles Edwin Arthur William Cox (12 December, 1885 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Cox was made an Acting Gunner (T) on 10 July, 1914 and appointed to the battleship Albion in August.[1]

Cox was confirmed in rank of Gunner (T) on 30 July, 1915.[2]

Cox was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1918.[3] He was appointed in command of a submarine whose name cannot be reliably read, possibly E 33, from 30 August, 1918 to 31 December, 1918 when he was was briefly appointed in command of the interned German u-boat Template:DE-U137 [?] from 31 December 1918 to 20 January, 1919.[4]

Cox was appointed in command of the eight "E" class boats of Group "J" in reserve at Rosyth from 1 October, 1920 to 20 March, 1921: E 42, E 44, E 45, E 46, E 48, E 51, E 53 and E 55.[5][6]

Cox was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 2 March, 1923. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (retired) on 1 August, 1925 and to Commander (retired) on 18 December, 1925. He let his availability to naval appointment be known in 1936 and was told it was unlikely he would be called upon.[7]
