Cameron St. Clair Ingham
Commander (retired) Cameron St. Clair Ingham, (16 June, 1891 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
His Service Record notes that he was the son of a "gentleman", but adds a question mark after this single descriptor.[1]
Ingham served in Invincible from July 1914 through 19 June, 1915. At the end of the war, he was in Hyacinth as first and gunnery officer.[2]
Ingham was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 July, 1918, having been altered from 15 July, 1914.[3]
Ingham was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1923.[4]
In February 1928 he was relieved of command of the gunboat Moorhen by Commander-in-Chief, China for being under the influence of liquor at an official dinner. He was deemed unsuitable to command a West River gunboat for reasons that reached beyond this offence.[5]
He was tried by Court Martial on 6 March, 1928, facing three charges: drunk on shore, negligent performance of duty, and acts prejudicial to good order and discipline at an officers' dinner ashore. The second charge was proven and he was dismissed from H.M.S. Tamar and reprimanded.[6]
Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 29 June, 1934, Ingham was promoted to the rank of Commander on 24 August, 1940.[7]
World War II
Surprisingly, Ingham was fairly busy during the war, with many appointments, some involving training at Portsmouth and elsewhere.[8]
