Basil Richard Poë
Captain (retired) Basil Richard Poë, R.N. (27 January, 1883 – 2 September, 1936) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Poë was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1904.
He became an interpreter in French, and apparently a very good one. His naval career would rely on his talent, and he would almost always be in a facilitating role rather than an executive one.
Poë was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1912. In the Annual Manoeuvres of 1912, he served as Beatty's Flag Lieutenant in the armoured cruiser Aboukir.
Poë was appointed in command of the destroyer Acheron on 3 August, 1918.[1]
Poë was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 27 June, 1922.
Poë was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 27 January, 1928.
