Captain Arthur Milward Stancomb (10 July, 1879 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy with an athletic build and some command of French.

Life & Career

Stancomb gained eight months' time on passing out of Britannia.[1]

Stancomb was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1901.[2]

Stancomb was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the destroyer Ardent on 14 July, 1906.[3]

He was appointed as Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 92 on 17 September, 1908.[4]

Stancomb was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1913 and appointed to join the light cruiser Liverpool. The War started while he was in this appointment. He left her when she paid off on 21 July, 1915. After some time working with the Senior Naval Officer, Yarmouth, on 30 July, 1915 Stancomb was appointed to the light cruiser Birkenhead, at some point becoming her commander as Acting Captain for a temporary span commencing after May 1918 (likely 21 September) and ending in mid-December, 1918.[5][6]

Stancomb was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1918.[7]

On 1 March, 1919, he was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Blake.[8]

In February, 1920 three launches were lost while under tow of the trawler Joseph Annison and Stancomb was chastised for having not provided adequate supervision.[9]

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 24 May, 1922.
