Captain (retired) Arthur Marsden, M.P., R.N. (14 November, 1883 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Marsden was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 August, 1904.

Marsden was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 12 on 7 September, 1909.[1]

Marsden was appointed in command of the destroyer Acorn on 31 July, 1912.[2]

Marsden was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 August, 1912.

On 16 February, 1914, Marsden was appointed in command of the destroyer Ardent.[3] He was her captain at the Battle of Jutland, operating as part of the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla.[4] Marsden's official report states that after Ardent was sunk in night fighting, he was recovered by Marksman after five hours in the water.

Marsden was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1917.

He was appointed in command of the destroyer Maenad on 29 October, 1918.[5]

Post-War

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 2 October, 1920.

Marsden was granted the acting rank of Captain on 17 November, 1938.

World War II

Marsden was granted the war service rank of Captain on 8 May, 1946.
