Commander (retired) Arthur Madryll Cheere Stileman (5 June, 1889 – 8 January, 1953) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Wimbledon, the son of a solicitor.

Stileman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1911.[1]

Stileman was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 036 in October, 1912,[2] and was reappointed in November, 1913.[3]

Great War

Stileman's promptness in attacking an enemy submarine on 7 August, 1917 was noted by the Admiralty.[4]

On 9 February, 1918, Stileman was appointed in command of the destroyer Tenacious.

On 6 August 1918, he was admitted to hospital with illegible complaints. He was fit one week later.[5]

Post-War

Stileman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1919.[6]

He was appointed in command of the destroyer Wolfhound on 2 September, 1920. He was reprimanded for grounding her in October 1921.[7]

On 6 October, 1931, he was admitted to Chatham Hospital with chronic appendicitis. He was found fit on 7 December.
