Rear-Admiral THE HONOURABLE Arthur Lionel Ochoncar Forbes-Sempill, R.N., Retired (24 September, 1877 – 1962) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of the RIght Honourable Lord Sempill gained twelve months' time on passing out of Britannia.

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1899.

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1910.

Semphill attended the Royal Navy War College from 3 March to 20 June, 1913, placing first of ten commanders.

Starting the war in the old battleship Dominion, Forbes-Sempill was appointed executive officer of the battleship Valiant on 6 September 1915 and fought in her at the Battle of Jutland.

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1916.

Forbes-Sempill was appointed command of the scout cruiser Blonde in February 1917.

He was appointed command of the light cruiser Cordelia on 1 June, 1917,[1] and was in her at the surrender of the German fleet.

Post-War

Forbes-Sempill was appointed command of the battleship Colossus on 15 May, 1919.[2]

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 31 March, 1923.

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral 3 August, 1927.
