Vice-Admiral Arthur Goodenough Craufurd (10 April, 1879 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy and served as H.M.S. Tiger's executive officer at the Battle of Jutland.

Life & Career

Craufurd was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1899.[1]

Craufurd was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1911.[2]

Craufurd was appointed to Talbot from 1 March, 1912 to 20 December, 1912 when he was appointed to Devonshire from 21 December, 1912. He would remain in her through 1915.

Craufurd left Devonshire when he was appointed to Tiger from 5 January, 1916. He was her executive officer at the Battle of Jutland and was recommended for promotion for his service in the action. His promotion to the rank of Captain was dated 30 June, 1916.[3]

Craufurd was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Hyacinth on 30 November, 1917.[4]

Post-War

In June, 1919, Craufurd was appointed in command of the light cruiser Birmingham.[5] In November, the Admiralty would express its displeasure with a Court of Enquiry into "a refusal of duty by certain of ship's company" in September.

Craufurd was lent to the Royal Australian Navy for two years from 6 January, 1923, becoming Captain Superintendent of Sydney Dockyard. Craufurd was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 24 September, 1932.[7]
