Archibald Compton Winnington Domvile
Captain (retired) Archibald Compton Winnington Domvile (19 May, 1884 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Oxford, Archibald listed his mother, Lady Domvile as his guardian upon joining the Navy in January, 1899.
Domvile was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 July, 1905.[1]
Domvile was lent to the Chilean Navy from October 1912 to August 1914, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 July, 1913. When war broke out, he was made gunnery officer in the armoured cruiser Donegal.[2]
From Donegal, Domvile was appointed to Malaya as gunnery officer from 31 August 1915 to October 1918, fighting in her at the Battle of Jutland and being promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1917.[3]
On 9 June 1920, he was again lent to the Chilean Navy. As the Board advised, he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 31 August, 1920.
Domvile was promoted to the rank of Captain on 19 May, 1929.[4]
World War II
Reverted to the Retired List on 28 April, 1947.[5]
