Captain R.N.R. (retired) Alexander MacRae, D.S.C., R.D. (13 August, 1884 – ) was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

MacRae was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 1 November, 1916.[1]

On 8 June, 1917, MacRae grounded Osprey, drawing blame from the Admiralty. He had only recently been placed in command of the destroyer. On the flip side, MacRae was noted for good service on 8-9 August, 1917 and was awarded a D.S.C. that same year.[2]

Folowing some time on leave at Pembroke, MacRae was again appointed Lieutenant, R.N.R. in Command of the destroyer Osprey on 8 July, 1918. He served in this role until he was demobilised, postdated to the date of his relief on 8 January, 1919.[3]

Post-War

MacRae was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 1 November, 1924.[4]

MacRae was appointed to Carysfort on 21 July, 1928 through 17 August. Captain Aubrey Thomas Tillard recommended that MacRae be promoted to Commander upon becoming eligible.[5]

MacRae was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 30 June, 1929.[6]

Placed on the Retired List on 11 April, 1933, MacRae was promoted to the rank of Captain R.N.R. (retired) on 30 June, 1934.[7]

At some later point, he submitted a Form A.R.O. saying that he was unemployed in Stanraer and advising that in his view he was fit for shore service only, as he suffered from angina. He would be, however, willing to volunteer early, for office work only.[8]
