Vice-Admiral Alan Cameron Bruce, C.B., D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (19 January, 1873 – 20 August, 1947) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Bruce was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the destroyer Banshee in Spring of 1902.[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1905.[2]

Bruce was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1913.[3]

In December 1913, he assumed command of the depot ship St. George.[4]

On 27 January, 1914, Bruce commissioned the scout cruiser Patrol and took command of the Ninth Destroyer Flotilla.[5]

He also was in command of the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla at some other point.

He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Shannon on 29 November, 1918.[6]

Bruce was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 7 October, 1923, vice Phillpotts. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 8 October.[7] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 6 April, 1928.[8]

Bruce died "peacefully" at Sunnybrae, Moffat on 20 August, 1947.[9]
