U.S.S. Boreas was one of three Arctic Class stores ships acquired by the U.S. Navy

Service

Boreas was built for the United States Shipping Board as S.S. Yaquina in 1919 by the Moore Shipbuilding Company in Oakland, California. She was renamed Boreas on 29 October, 1921 and acquired by the U.S. Navy on 6 December, 1921. She was however immediately laid up in reserve at the Philadelphia Navy Yard, not to see active service until immediately before World War II.
