I removed a few sentences regarding the positions and methods of two historians which elicited a very negative reaction in a frequent visitor who found them uncharacteristically catty. I understood his reaction, given the lack of sufficient argument in this article to explain the derision. If there is much more to offer, it could of course be added here and if any criticism of the other historians can be made more moderate in tone, it, too, could be restored. I encourage you to read an email I forwarded c. 31 March, as the reader's comments had some detail which might prompt you to amend the comments about Johnson's "borrowing" of text, which may not be plagiaristic in the manner you characterised it.
