Stuart Latham Bateson

Rear-Admiral (L) Stuart Latham Bateson, C.B.E. (7 July, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of A. D. Bateson, K.C. was a Special Entry to the Training Establishment in September, 1916. He was quickly spat out on 15 January 1917 and placed in the battleship Marlborough on 3 February, 1917. On 24 June 1918 he was sent to attend a course in Torpedo Control at H.M.S. Vernon. In July, he was appointed to serve in the destroyer Walpole upon her commissioning.

Bateson continued to serve in Walpole until being sent to courses at Cambridge in April 1920, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1919.[1]

Bateson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 October, 1927.[2]

Bateson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1934.[3]

World War II

Bateson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1939.[4]

Bateson was appointed as Director of the Naval Electrical Department on 19 July[?], 1946.[5]

Bateson transferred to the Electrical Branch in the rank of Captain (L) and was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral (L) on 8 January, 1949 and re-appointed as Director of the Naval Electrical Department. His Service Record stops cold at that point.[6]
