Louis Henry Keppel Hamilton

Admiral SIR Louis Henry Keppel Hamilton, K.C.B., D.S.O.*, R.N. (31 December, 1890 – 27 June, 1957) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1913.

Hamilton was appointed in command of the destroyer Taurus on 18 April, 1918.[1]

Post-War

He was appointed in command of the destroyer Strenuous on 29 December, 1920.[2]

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1921.

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1926.

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1932.

World War II

Hamilton was appointed to the new battleship Prince of Wales in October 1940, to assume command upon her commissioning. He was superseded on 15 February, 1941.

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 15 January, 1941.

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 31 December, 1943.

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 16 May, 1947.

Placed on the Retired List on 26 September, 1948.
