H.M.S. Woodcock was one of two Woodcock Class river gunboats completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
She was loaded aboard the transport ship Glen Turret on 15 September 1898, to be conveyed, along with H.M.S. Sandpiper to Hong Kong. The crews of the two vessels were to embark on a P & O vessel on 1 October.[5]

Lieutenant-Commander David Graham Horndon Bush was to command her from 21 November, 1927 vice Garvey and then transfer on to Tern,[21] but this was cancelled.
