H.M.S. Whitehall was one of fifteen destroyers of the Modified "W" class.

Service

After launch, work on her was suspended, and she only entered service in mid-1924, being assigned to the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[7]

She was re-commissioned at Malta on 3 September, 1924.[8]

Re-commissioned at Portsmouth on 27 April, 1926 for service with the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[9]

Whitehall was re-commissioned on 21 August, 1928 for service with the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean.[10]

Re-commissioned in reserve at Portsmouth on 16 May, 1931.[11]

She commissioned at Devonport on 23 October, 1931 for service on the China Station with the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla.[12] She re-commissioned at Hong Kong on 26 April, 1933 to continue this service,[13] moving onward to the First Destroyer Flotilla in the Mediterranean by October, 1935.[14]

In June of 1933, her bell was one of about 100 surplus bells announced as being for sale at prices ranging from £1 to £10. Preference would be given to those offers from men with a special consideration in the bell in question.[15]

Whitehall was placed in Dockyard Control at Chatham on 20 October, 1936.[16]
