For the Annual Manoeuvres of 1895, the ship received a masthead semaphore machine invented by Rear-Admiral Wilson for comparative testing.[7]
Royal Sovereign was recommissioned at Portsmouth on 8 June, 1897, Captain Edward Henry Meggs Davis in command.[8]
As of 1901, in the Mediterranean, she was slated to receive a "1 to 52" W/T set.[9]
